Math 8H "Monkey Poo"

Hey try this game out.  I hope it refreshes your memory of "Monkey Poo."  Again, I am going to ask someone to come up and play a few rounds in class! Remember, this is just the distributive property in case you're wondering!

Math 10P "Rational Exponents"

Many of you have been asking how to calculate the cube root or fourth root of a number on your graphing calculator.  You will need to know a little about "rational exponents" in order to do this. First check out this video which illustrates the importance of rational exponents in the real world.  We'll be dealing with these types of exponents in the next unit!

Math 10P "Multiplying Radicals"

Multiplying Radicals is quite easy. First, make sure the radicals you want to multiply have the same index. Second, multiply the coefficients. Third, multiply the radicands. Finally, put your answer in simple mixed radical form

The homework for today is page 139 q. 1-19. Be ready for a quiz next day. Here are the solutions:

Math 9 "Zero and Negative Exponents"

Hey everyone! lf you missed today's lesson you'll find out we had a quiz on "Zero and Negative Exponents." Here's the open-book quiz:

We didn't quite get to part B of "Zero and Negative Exponents" in the homework -instead I gave out this challenging geometry puzzle:

Most of you were able to get 9 triangles, but to get 10 is quite tricky!! Anyway, take a look at "Zero and Negative Exponents" involving fractions on page 38. That's what we are doing next day!

Math 10P "Radicals"

Halloween
Hey everyone!  I hope you had a great Halloween.  It was cool to see many of you dressed up for Friday.  I especially liked Rambo and Batgirl (above: Brodie Moniz de Sa as Rambo). That scary pirate was great too. Congratulations Brad for winning third place in the Halloween fashion show! If you were lucky you got to see him do a pirate's jig in class!

Radicals
This week we are continuing with Radicals.  Many of you are still having trouble with simplifying radicals--especially now that variables are involved.  Check out this link which visually walks you through the entire simplification process.  The rules for adding and subtracting radicals is quite simple: 1) Like radicals can be added together (same index and radicand). 2) Put radicals into simple mixed radical form to see if they are like radicals.

Math 10P "Real Numbers and Number Systems"

It's really important to understand the various number systems we deal with this year.  Check out this cool animation that explains the Real Number System!
